Luxeed RX Opens Pre-Orders from $44,210, Four-LiDAR Setup Targets Xiaomi YU7

206
Luxeed, the EV brand jointly developed by Huawei and Chery, opened pre-orders on August 20 for its new RX coupe SUV. Starting at 299,800 yuan ($44,210), the model features a rare four-LiDAR sensor array, delivers up to 852 km CLTC range, and is styled by former Ferrari designer Werner Gruber, directly targeting the Xiaomi YU7 segment.

Pre-Sales Pricing and Market Positioning

The Luxeed RX officially opened for pre-orders on August 20, with two variants priced at 299,800 yuan and 359,800 yuan respectively. The entry variant includes an in-cabin LiDAR, while the higher trim features an architecture designed for L3 autonomous driving. This pricing positions the RX squarely at the upper end of the Xiaomi YU7 range, where the YU7 Standard starts at 233,500 yuan and the high-performance YU7 GT begins at 389,900 yuan.

As the first SUV under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) to adopt letter-based naming rather than numerals, the RX breaks from the previous S7, R7, V9 convention. The model is expected to officially launch this fall and will make its public debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show opening on August 21.

Powertrain and Platform Architecture

Built on Huawei's Tuling platform, the Luxeed RX is positioned as a mid-to-large all-electric coupe SUV. Its dimensions of 5,020 × 2,007 × 1,585 mm and a 3,000 mm wheelbase place it at the leading edge of its segment for interior space.

The powertrain offers two configurations:

  • Single-motor rear-wheel drive: maximum output of 277 kW (371 hp)
  • Dual-motor all-wheel drive: combining 160 kW front and 277 kW rear motors

The RX debuts Huawei's latest high-performance electric drive system with a maximum motor speed of 21,000 rpm. Battery options use Huawei's Giant Whale platform with three capacities:

Battery CapacityCLTC Range
100.424 kWhUp to 852 km
100.256 kWhLong-range variant
81.1 kWhStandard-range variant

Intelligent Driving: Four-LiDAR Array as Key Differentiator

The Luxeed RX sets itself apart with an exceptionally rich sensor suite. The vehicle carries 4 LiDAR units and 38 fused-sensing sensors, including:

  • One 896-channel dual-optical-path imaging-grade LiDAR
  • Three high-precision solid-state LiDAR units
  • Coordinated mmWave radar, ultrasonic sensors, and HD cameras

A four-LiDAR configuration remains uncommon among mass-production vehicles. Most premium EVs in China currently employ between one and three units, giving the RX a differentiated advantage in perception redundancy and complex-scenario coverage. Redundant systems for power supply, communications, perception, steering, and braking further support L3 autonomous-driving scenarios.

Design and Driving Experience

The exterior design of the Luxeed RX was led by former Ferrari designer Werner Gruber, who previously headed the design of the LaFerrari and FXX-K. Chassis tuning was personally handled by former Aston Martin CEO Tobias Moers, balancing sportiness with comfort.

Interior highlights include:

  • 26-inch head-up display
  • 16.1-inch central infotainment screen
  • Intelligent wraparound seats with 98 pressure sensors
  • 1.8-square-meter powered partition sunroof

Brand Portfolio and Sales Ambitions

Luxeed currently markets the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV, and V9 MPV. The addition of the RX expands the lineup to four models, strengthening coverage of the mid-to-high-end new-energy segment.

According to previously announced plans, Luxeed aims to solidify its market foundation in 2026 and reach annual sales of 1 million vehicles by 2030. This ambitious target implies the brand must achieve a dramatic sales scaling over the next four years.

For international buyers and distributors tracking China's EV evolution, the Luxeed RX represents the latest direction of Huawei-empowered premium electric vehicles. For more model details and overseas procurement channels, visit EX1000.COM.
