Sunwoda Power released a 15C intelligent flash-charge battery system on September 17, claiming a 10% to 97% charge in 9 minutes at room temperature and 15 minutes at minus 20°C, with a range of over 700 km, and offering a 10-year or 300,000 km warranty. The company plans to build 10,000 megawatt-level charging stations by the end of 2027, but did not disclose locations or mass-production vehicle models. The intelligent monitoring system released at the same time can warn of more than 20 types of faults 2 to 10 days in advance, with 99.77% accuracy. The fast-charging technology race among Chinese power battery companies continues to accelerate. Sunwoda EVB released its 15C intelligent fast-charging battery system on September 17 and plans to build 10,000 megawatt-level charging stations by the end of 2027. The product made its debut at a battery industry conference held in Zaozhuang, Shandong, from September 16 to 17.

Room-temperature charge from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes

According to data Sunwoda released at the conference, the battery system can achieve a 10% to 70% charge in 5 minutes and a 10% to 97% charge in 9 minutes at room temperature, adding 100 km of range with 1 minute of charging.

The charging times for the two ranges above are consistent with the room-temperature figures BYD announced in March this year when it launched its second-generation Blade Battery.

In terms of low-temperature performance, at minus 20°C, the system takes 15 minutes to charge from 10% to 97%. The company says the system can support a range of more than 700 kilometers.

Lifespan and warranty were a major focus of this launch. Sunwoda said the system can meet a 10-year or 300,000-kilometer warranty requirement, and places no limit on the number of ultra-fast charging cycles for non-commercial vehicles — a statement aimed at the widespread concern that high-rate charging may shorten battery life. The company said in its statement that it conducted extensive cycle and reliability testing before turning it into a technology that can be installed in vehicles at scale.

Intelligent monitoring becomes a key upgrade focus

In addition to charging speed, Sunwoda made intelligent monitoring another key focus of this upgrade. The system integrates Smart Cell 3.0, an energy domain controller, and an AI cloud control platform to improve battery monitoring and early fault identification.

The company says the system can issue warnings for more than 20 types of faults 2 to 10 days in advance, with an accuracy rate of 99.77%.

Released alongside the battery system was an open ecosystem platform integrating solar power, energy storage, and fast charging, extending the company's product line into the charging infrastructure sector. The platform combines fast-charging EV batteries, energy storage systems, megawatt charging units, high-power liquid-cooled charging terminals, and an AI cloud control platform, and supports vehicles of multiple brands and different cooperation models.

10,000 megawatt stations, details not yet disclosed

Sunwoda expects its fast-charging ecosystem to include 10,000 megawatt charging stations by the end of 2027. However, the company's statement did not disclose station locations, investment plans, the first models to carry the battery, or a mass-production timeline.

The race shifts focus to network expansion

Competition in China's fast-charging market has shifted from the technology launch stage to the network expansion stage.

BYD announced on August 28 that it had completed construction of its 10,000th fast-charging station in China and reiterated its goal of building 20,000 by the end of 2026.

Other domestic automakers are also advancing related technologies. Test results released by Hongqi in July showed that a battery jointly developed with CNET took 3 minutes and 41 seconds to charge from 10% to 70% at 25°C; the brand did not disclose a mass-production timeline at the time.

Dongfeng launched its self-developed ultra-fast charging prototype on July 29, with a single charging connector achieving a peak output of 1,500 kW, on par with BYD's new flash charging pile released in March.

Xpeng announced on September 15 that its first X-Energy megawatt charging station has begun operation in Hong Kong. The station was jointly built with local charging service provider Halo and is open to vehicles of all brands. It has a peak output of 1 MW and is equipped with 400 kWh of energy storage. It should be noted that this figure refers to the station's output capacity; the actual charging power of a vehicle still depends on the vehicle's battery and charging capability.

Potential impact on models going overseas

Based on information disclosed so far, the significance of flash charging capability goes beyond competition in the domestic market. Charging time, low-temperature performance, and warranty terms are increasingly becoming part of how overseas markets evaluate the product strength of Chinese electric vehicles; meanwhile, the pace of charging network deployment and standards compatibility are related to the user experience of models going overseas in overseas markets.

Sunwoda's announced plan for 10,000 megawatt stations has not yet disclosed its geographic distribution or construction entities, and whether it will extend to overseas markets remains unclear. Against the backdrop that companies such as CATL and BYD have already deployed production capacity and charging networks overseas, the internationalization path of battery companies' flash charging ecosystems will be a variable worth observing going forward.
