Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max Debuts as First with RoboSense All-Solid-State LiDAR

Xiaomi Auto officially unveiled its second product series, the SkyNomad intelligent large-space SUV lineup, on July 30, 2026. The flagship N90 Max becomes the first mass-produced Xiaomi model equipped with a rear-facing all-solid-state digital LiDAR, exclusively supplied by RoboSense. Based on RoboSense's automotive-grade E Platform, the solid-state sensor integrates proprietary SPAD-SoC and 2D VCSEL chips, delivering a 140° horizontal and 105° vertical field of view with 2cm ranging accuracy. This marks the E Platform's first deployment in mainstream L2+ passenger vehicles.

Kunlun Architecture: Xiaomi's Second Automotive Chapter

On the evening of July 30, 2026, Xiaomi Auto unveiled the SkyNomad series — its second vehicle lineup built on the all-new Kunlun technical architecture. Xiaomi Group founder Lei Jun defined this as the "second chapter" of Xiaomi's automotive journey, shifting from proving it could build good cars to building a wider variety of excellent vehicles for diverse user needs.

The Kunlun architecture, initiated in early 2023 and developed over approximately three and a half years, comprises three core modules: the Kunlun platform, Kunlun HyperRange extended-range system, and Kunlun full-domain safety. At the platform level, Xiaomi engineered a completely flat floor spanning 2.9 meters from front to rear with an incline of just 2.95 degrees. The cabin features six sliding seat rails, with the longest measuring 1,938 mm, enabling flexible interior configurations.

The series debuts with two distinct models:

E Platform Solid-State LiDAR: From L4 to L2+ Perception Revolution

The SkyNomad N90 Max's most significant technical highlight is its status as the world's first L2+ passenger vehicle equipped with RoboSense's E Platform all-solid-state digital LiDAR. Positioned as a rear blind-spot sensor, it works in tandem with the roof-mounted primary LiDAR to create a comprehensive front-to-rear perception matrix.

RoboSense's E Platform is the industry's first mass-produced automotive-grade platform for all-solid-state digital LiDARs, integrating proprietary SPAD-SoC and 2D VCSEL chips. Compared to traditional mechanical rotating LiDARs, the solid-state digital architecture offers decisive advantages in reliability, cost efficiency, and miniaturization. Key specifications include:

With the SkyNomad N90 Max, the E Platform is expanding into mainstream L2+ passenger vehicles, signaling a new phase of large-scale solid-state LiDAR adoption.

Rear Perception: A Safety Imperative for Large SUVs

For SUVs exceeding 5.2 meters in length and nearly 2 meters in width, rear and side near-field perception has historically been a weak point in intelligent driving systems. While front-facing systems excel at mid-to-long-range detection, they leave critical gaps in high-frequency scenarios such as:

  • Parking garages: Identifying low curbs, steps, and overhead obstacles
  • Narrow road reversing: Judging distances and contours of rear obstacles
  • Side exiting: Monitoring approaching vehicles and pedestrians from the rear-side

The N90 Max's rear solid-state LiDAR generates 3D point cloud data to precisely identify object distances, contours, and spatial positions. Working alongside cameras and ultrasonic sensors, it effectively fills the coverage gaps left by traditional front-facing perception. This capability is particularly relevant for buyers in Central Asia and Russia, where maneuvering large SUVs through crowded urban streets and tight parking spaces demands enhanced rear-side awareness.

Intelligent Driving and Ecosystem Synergy: Xiaomi's Differentiation

The SkyNomad series comes standard with Xiaomi HAD (Hyper Autonomous Driving) and the XLA cognitive large model for voice interaction. The N90 Max is powered by the Nvidia Drive Thor chip with 700 TOPS of computing power, alongside a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 cockpit platform.

Xiaomi's competitive edge extends beyond raw hardware specs:

  1. 800V high-voltage platform as standard across the lineup, with high-spec models breaking the 500 km pure electric barrier
  2. Mijia ecosystem integration, seamlessly connecting with over a thousand IoT device categories for existing Xiaomi smart home users

It is worth noting that the domestic extended-range market is currently experiencing a downturn — first-half 2026 sales totaled approximately 450,000 units, down 15.09% year-on-year. SkyNomad's entry into this competitive landscape faces real headwinds, though Lei Jun maintains that the segment holds significant untapped potential. The N90 Max is scheduled for official launch in September 2026, with its auto show debut set for the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21.
