China: Fuel Vehicle Share Falls Below One-Third as NEV Penetration Hits 67%

Data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) show that in September 2026, the market share of China's fuel-powered passenger vehicles fell below one-third for the first time, while the penetration rate of new energy vehicles rose to 67% and the share of battery electric vehicles reached 47.3%. Product advances, policy orientation and young consumers' preferences are jointly driving the structural shift. Joint-venture brands and traditional dealership and repair systems are under pressure, with the number of auto repair shops falling from 382,000 to 345,000 in half a year. The industry is shifting from fuel-dominated to new-energy-dominated, but fuel vehicles will still coexist with new energy vehicles over the long term in scenarios such as long-distance travel and low temperatures, and the industrial chain needs to complete business and talent structure adjustments during the transition period.

Tesla Roadster Flying Demo: Mass Production Not Expected Until 2028

Tesla Roadster Flying Demo: Mass Production Not Expected Until 2028

On October 15, Tesla showcased the second-generation Roadster in Texas, using cold-gas propulsion derived from SpaceX and a chassis suction system to complete short airborne hops, mid-air steering, and driving upside down. The vehicle is equipped with roughly a 600-liter pressure vessel, 10 nozzles, up to about 2g of suction downforce, and a range target of about 480 km. Mass production is expected by 2028; analysts expect annual sales of about 2,000 units, and the demonstrated technology is still some distance from everyday mass production.

Tesla Teases October 1 Event as Roadster Remains in Design Development

Tesla has teased an event on October 1 to unveil the next-generation Roadster. Deliveries for the model have been repeatedly delayed since its November 2017 reveal, and the latest earnings report still lists it as being in the design and development stage. The event slogan "ready to launch" is interpreted as a tribute to SpaceX and has sparked speculation about a merger between the two companies. Tesla currently mass-produces the Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck and Semi, while the Roadster is positioned more as a brand and technology symbol. The market is watching whether it will announce a specific timeline for the first time.

Hyundai Delays In-House Driver Assistance Software to End-2029, Taps Nvidia for 2028

Hyundai Motor Group has delayed the launch of models equipped with its self-developed driving assistance software to the end of 2029, two years later than originally planned. During the transition period, Hyundai will partner with Nvidia to launch Level 2+ and Level 2++ advanced driver assistance systems in 2028, and use the data they generate to train its self-developed platform Atria. Hyundai and Kia have annual sales of more than 7 million vehicles and plan to surpass competitors in total driving data by 2033. The partnership also extends to AI data centers and Boston Dynamics' humanoid robot business.

Automakers Pilot Humanoid Robots: Validation Matters More Than Replacing Labor

Automakers Pilot Humanoid Robots: Validation Matters More Than Replacing Labor

Morgan Stanley estimates that the humanoid robot market could reach $5 trillion by 2050, and automakers including BMW, Renault, Mercedes-Benz, and Tesla have already been testing related equipment in factories. Tesla is shifting the space of its former Model S and Model X production lines at the Fremont factory to Optimus, Renault plans to deploy 350 units in 2027, and Mercedes-Benz aims to use them on assembly lines by 2030. Currently, humanoid robots cost about $20,000 to $200,000, but constrained by battery life of only a few hours, insufficient hand dexterity, reliability yet to be proven, and the level of factory digitalization, trials at this stage are mainly for technical validation, and there is still a long way to go before large-scale replacement of human labor.

From Product Export to Systemic Roots: The Three Stages of Deep Globalization in the Automotive Supply Chain and the Talent Imperative

From Product Export to Systemic Roots: The Three Stages of Deep Globalization in the Automotive Supply Chain and the Talent Imperative

On September 9, 2026, the 20th anniversary celebration of the Automotive Talent Committee of the China Talent Research Society was held. Fu Yuwu, Yang Hong, and others discussed supply chain globalization: technology windows such as electrical/electronic architecture, smart cockpits, and intelligent driving are opening opportunities for Chinese suppliers, but winning orders is only admission. Building plants, R&D, ESG compliance, and cross-cultural system capabilities determine whether they can take root, while interdisciplinary talent ultimately determines how far they can go.
