GWM's WEY brand expands the Gaoshan family with a new PHEV variant launching in September and an HEV version planned for Q4, creating a dual-positioning product matrix.

New Model Plan: Dual Powertrain Strategy

On September 7, GWM's WEY brand announced via Weibo that the Gaoshan family is expanding. The new PHEV variant will officially launch in September, with the HEV version following in Q4. Both will be sold alongside existing models, forming a "two styles, two positions" product matrix.

According to MIIT's 410th batch vehicle catalog, WEY Gaoshan 8 Hi4 and Gaoshan 9 have completed homologation:

ModelSeatsDimensions (mm)Wheelbase (mm)Powertrain
Gaoshan 965410×1960×18903275PHEV
Gaoshan 8 Hi475280×1960×19003145HEV

Product Positioning and Powertrain Upgrades

The new models add a 2.0T engine and HEV powertrain option. WEY confirmed that existing models' pricing and service benefits remain unchanged. Current Gaoshan models start at 265,800 yuan with limited-time offers.

The Gaoshan family, launched on May 13, 2025, now offers:

  • PHEV variants for users with convenient charging access
  • HEV variants for families without fixed charging facilities

Market Significance

The Gaoshan series was the top-selling NEV MPV in H1 2026. With competition from Denza D9, Voyah Dreamer, and Buick GL8, WEY's expanded powertrain options aim to capture broader market segments.

  1. Gaoshan 7 targets business users, starting at 272,800 yuan
  2. Gaoshan 8 positions as family all-rounder, priced at 309,800 yuan
  3. Gaoshan 9 focuses on premium six-seater, priced at 353,800 yuan

For international buyers monitoring China's automotive market, the Gaoshan family's expansion signals WEY's ambition in the premium MPV space.
