Chassis and Intelligent Driving: DiSus-M Debuts, Equipped with LiDAR

The chassis and intelligent configuration are two key highlights of this launch. The Formula S and Formula S GT are the first to feature the DiSus-M intelligent magnetorheological suspension, which the company says can achieve millisecond-level damping adjustment to balance handling and comfort. For intelligent driving, the vehicles are equipped with the 'God's Eye B' system and LiDAR, supporting highway and urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot).

Dimensions, Drag Coefficient and Cabin

In terms of dimensions, the Formula S measures 5060/1967/1483 mm (length/width/height), while the Formula S GT is slightly more compact at 5025/1967/1458 mm; both have a wheelbase of 2960 mm. For drag coefficient, the Formula S is 0.22 and the Formula S GT is 0.25.

The cabin features a 26-inch AR-HUD, a Devialet audio system, and zero-gravity seats. Observation: A Head-On Clash in the RMB 200,000 Price Band

In terms of pricing, Fangchengbao positioned the Formula S series at RMB 189,900–239,900, putting it in the same price band as the two competitors named by the company. This means that in the RMB 200,000-class all-electric sedan segment, previously dominated by new EV makers and foreign brands, a new product line from BYD has been added.

From a product-definition perspective, this launch sends two signals worth observing for the industry. First, chassis technologies such as magnetorheological suspension, which were previously seen mostly on higher-priced models, are beginning to appear on products in the 200,000-yuan class. Moreover, under the same range and same drivetrain, the DiSus-M version is priced the same as the DiSus-A version, making the “price downshift” path for technology configurations relatively clear. Second, charging speed is positioned as one of the core selling points; the figures of 5 minutes from 10% to 70% and 9 minutes from 10% to 97% point directly to users’ direct demand for energy-replenishment efficiency on long journeys. Combined with a maximum CLTC range of 900 km, the lineup covers both daily commuting and intercity scenarios at the specification level.

In terms of the brand system, Fangchengbao is a brand under BYD. This launch extends its product line from mid-to-large vehicle series into the high-performance sedan segment, forming new price-band coverage alongside BYD Group’s existing multi-brand layout. According to official statements, the Formula S and Formula S GT target the market positions occupied by the Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3. Going forward, the actual competitive dynamics among the three will depend to a large extent on the implementation of delivery cadence and end-market pricing strategies.
