BYD Qin MAX Launches at $13,800, Second-Gen Blade Battery Hits B-Segment

279
BYD Qin MAX officially launched with 9 variants priced at $13,800-$20,100. The EV version features second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging tech, achieving 60% charge in 5 minutes and up to 630km CLTC range, redefining the value standard for entry-level B-segment sedans.

Product Positioning and Pricing Strategy

On August 13, BYD officially unveiled the Qin MAX at its Shenzhen headquarters. With the theme "Truly Different, All in Qin MAX," BYD Dynasty Network GM Lu Tian announced the arrival of this new B-segment sedan targeting urban youth and practical families. The lineup includes 9 variants—4 DM-i PHEV and 5 EV—with an official price range of 99,900-143,900 RMB ($13,800-$20,100).

This pricing directly undercuts traditional B-segment sedans. For under $14,000, buyers get a standard B-segment body with a 2,820mm wheelbase and 4,866mm length—a segment previously dominated by Camry, Magotan, and Passat with entry thresholds around $24,000. The Qin MAX turns "buying a B-segment car at A-segment prices" from slogan to reality.

Key Dimensions:

  • Body: 4,866×1,880×1,495mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,820mm
  • Trunk: 523L (EV) / 557L (DM-i)
  • Frunk: 115L

Powertrain and Range Performance

The Qin MAX offers two powertrain options to match different energy preferences.

Flash Charging and Smart Features

The second-generation Blade Battery with flash charging is the headline technology. At room temperature, charging from 10% to 70% takes just 5 minutes; 10% to 97% takes 9 minutes. Even at -30°C, charging time only increases by 3 minutes.

BYD emphasizes the battery has passed extreme tests including "500 flash charge cycles followed by nail penetration test." As of now, BYD has built 7,018 flash charging stations across 325 cities in China.

Smart driving offers two tiers:

  1. Standard DiPilot 100 (vision-only) with highway pilot and auto parking
  2. Optional Tianyan B LiDAR version (+$1,700) adding city navigation and traffic signal recognition

BYD also pioneered a "city navigation safety guarantee" policy, an industry first. The cabin features DiLink AI powered by "Didi Shrimp" intelligent agent supporting conversational voice commands.

Overseas Market Perspective

The Qin MAX pricing and tech configuration carries significant implications for China's NEV exports. For buyers in Central Asia and Russia, this model demonstrates BYD's ability to rapidly deploy flagship technologies to entry-level vehicles. EX1000.COM notes that the second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging in the Qin MAX may reach overseas markets through parallel export channels, offering exceptional value in the B-segment NEV sedan category.

Chassis-wise, the Qin MAX EV adopts front double wishbone + rear multi-link suspension—structurally shared with BMW M series—paired with YunNian-C intelligent damping and TBC high-speed blowout stability system.

Launch Benefits:

  • 1 year free flash charging
  • Lifetime warranty on battery, motor, and controller
  • 6-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty
