BYD Great Han EV officially opened pre-sale on August 21 at the Chengdu Auto Show. Positioned as a D-segment flagship sedan, it measures 5,256mm in length with a 3,130mm wheelbase, offers up to 1,008km CLTC range, and features second-generation Blade Battery with 1000V high-voltage flash charging. Estimated price: $35,000-$45,000.

Vehicle Positioning and Core Specifications

On August 21, at Hall 9 of the 29th Chengdu International Auto Show, BYD Dynasty Network unveiled its first D-segment flagship sedan—the Great Han EV—for pre-sale. Lu Tian, GM of BYD Dynasty Network, defined it as "another pinnacle work after advancing the mainstream, tech, and intelligent Dynasty," fully responding to the expectations of pragmatic buyers seeking a flagship vehicle.

The Great Han EV's core data is impressive. Body dimensions of 5,256×1,999×1,510mm and a wheelbase of 3,130mm—this wheelbase exceeds the Mercedes S-Class standard wheelbase (3,106mm) by 24mm, making it BYD's largest sedan ever. The design continues the "Dragon Face" aesthetic with a full-width light bar, fastback from the B-pillar, two-tone body, and multi-spoke floating wheels. The side proportion has been described by car enthusiasts as "having the Panamera vibe."

Powertrain and Range Performance

The Great Han EV features second-generation Blade Battery and 1000V high-voltage flash charging across all variants, with both RWD and AWD layouts.

RWD Version: 370kW single motor, CLTC range covers 820/850/880/970/1,008km across five tiers. The top configuration packs a 102.326kWh battery.

AWD Version: Dual-motor combined output of 570kW (~764 hp), 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, top speed 270km/h, CLTC range approximately 880km.

Flash charging capability is a core selling point. At room temperature, 10% to 70% takes just 5 minutes; 10% to 97% takes 9 minutes. Even at -30°C, charging time only increases by 3 minutes. Combined with BYD's expanding flash charging network (7,018 stations across 325 cities), range anxiety for long trips is significantly reduced.

A PHEV version (Great Han DM) is also planned, featuring a 54.489kWh battery with 370km CLTC electric range. However, following the pattern of the Great Tang DM, the PHEV version will likely not launch simultaneously with pre-sales and will require further Blade Battery production ramp-up.

Intelligent Chassis and Luxury Cabin

The Great Han EV delivers full configuration in chassis and intelligent features. The chassis adopts a million-class intelligent platform paired with YunNian intelligent body control system, balancing executive-level comfort with sporty handling. Intelligence features include optional Tianyan B LiDAR for city navigation and other advanced ADAS capabilities, with BYD's pioneering safety guarantee for city navigation.

The cabin is positioned as "elegant luxury." The rear passenger space benefits from the 3,130mm wheelbase with limousine-class legroom, complemented by leg rests, massage functions, and other amenities—fully competitive against BBA D-segment sedans in business reception scenarios.

Great Han EV Purchase Guide:

  1. Family second-car buyers: RWD long-range version offers the best value; 1,008km range supports a week of commuting without charging
  2. Business reception users: AWD top trim delivers commanding presence with 570kW power and rear luxury amenities at a fraction of BBA cost
  3. Wait-and-see buyers: Review price and configuration tiers during pre-sale; reference Great Tang EV's first-month delivery of 10,000+ units suggests year-end delivery is likely

Market Significance and Overseas Perspective

The Great Han EV marks BYD's formal entry into the D-segment sedan market, pulling the D-segment flagship from the "million-yuan luxury" tier down to the "$35K consumer goods" level. This pricing-product combination represents a milestone in China's NEV premiumization journey.

For buyers in Central Asia, Russia, and other overseas markets, the Great Han EV demonstrates BYD's complete technology stack at the flagship level. EX1000.COM analysis suggests that if the Great Han EV enters overseas markets, it will create direct impact on traditional luxury brands through a "D-segment size at C-segment price" competitive advantage. Notably, BYD has announced plans to deploy flash charging stations overseas by the end of 2026, providing infrastructure support for models like the Great Han EV.
