On August 19, 2026, SAIC Volkswagen officially released interior images of the ID.ERA 8X. Positioned as a mid-to-large five-seat EREV SUV with dimensions of 5020×1997×1750mm and a 2970mm wheelbase, the vehicle features a 15.6-inch 2.5K dual-screen center console, instrument magic screen, and Smart surface door panel displays. Power comes from a 1.5T VTG range-extender system, with the official debut scheduled for the August 21 Chengdu Auto Show.
Interior Debut: ID.ERA Family Design Language
On August 19, SAIC Volkswagen released official interior images of the ID.ERA 8X. The vehicle will make its public debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show opening on August 21, with market launch planned within the year.
The interior design draws from the flagship ID.ERA 9X, featuring a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, instrument magic display, Smart surface door panel screens, and a 15.6-inch 2.5K dual-screen center console. The overall cabin creates a strong tech atmosphere. Thanks to the large five-seat layout, trunk storage capacity is expected to exceed expectations.
Exterior Design: Cosmic Wing Light Strip + Coupe-Like Stance
The ID.ERA 8X features a full-width Cosmic Wing light strip paired with distinctive L-shaped DRLs for strong front-end presence. The headlamps adopt a new "Hexa-Core High-Energy Grid" design with six vertically arranged light core units, supporting sequential illumination during lock/unlock sequences.
The vehicle adopts a low-slung stance with a window-to-body ratio approaching 1:2, short front and rear overhangs, and a 4:1 wheel-to-axle ratio, effectively reducing the bulky feel of traditional SUVs and presenting a coupe-SUV dynamic character. Dual-peak character lines and a sharp shoulder line create a powerful visual impression.
Dimensions are 5020/1997/1750mm with a 2970mm wheelbase, placing it firmly in the mid-to-large SUV category. Compared to the ID.ERA 9X (5207/1997/1810mm, 3070mm wheelbase), the 8X is more compact but maintains the same width.
Powertrain: VTG Range Extender + Dual Battery Options
The ID.ERA 8X employs a range-extender system based on the EA211 engine, with a key technical highlight being Porsche-developed VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) technology. Compared to conventional fixed-geometry turbos, VTG reduces lag at low RPM while improving throttle response. The range extender delivers 105kW maximum output.
The rear-wheel-drive variant features a 220kW drive motor. The AWD version adds a 150kW or 160kW front motor alongside the 220kW rear unit.
Two battery options are available: the 51.1kWh variant offers 260-275km WLTC pure-electric range, while the 65.2kWh version delivers 330-345km WLTC range. The 51.1kWh version achieves over 340km CLTC range with total range exceeding 1400km; the 65.2kWh version exceeds 400km CLTC electric range with total range over 1500km.

Chassis: Cloud Digital Chassis + Dual-Chamber Air Suspension
The ID.ERA 8X features the Cloud Digital Chassis with VMC intelligent chassis control unit enabling millisecond-level full-scenario dynamic adjustment. Hardware includes dual-chamber air suspension and intelligent preview magic carpet system. The dual-chamber design offers a wider stiffness adjustment range than single-chamber setups, enabling broader dynamic switching between comfort and support.
The vehicle also features front double wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension, with air suspension available on the AWD variant. The 5020mm length and 2970mm wheelbase with short overhangs and 4:1 wheel-to-axle ratio help optimize weight distribution and reduce understeer tendencies common in large SUVs.
Market Positioning: Filling the 250K Joint-Venture EREV Gap
As the second product in SAIC Volkswagen's ID.ERA new energy lineup, the ID.ERA 8X is positioned below the ID.ERA 9X (from 309,800 yuan), offering a rear-wheel-drive variant to lower the entry price. Referencing the ID.ERA 9X's pricing and market performance (5,004 units sold in May 2026, Volkswagen's best-selling NEV in China), the ID.ERA 8X's starting price is expected to approach 250,000 yuan.
In the 250,000-yuan EREV SUV market, the ID.ERA 8X will directly compete with popular domestic models like the Li Auto L7 and AITO M7. Its core differentiators include German chassis tuning DNA, VTG range-extender technology, and Volkswagen's global after-sales network advantage.
