Zeekr 9X Five-Seat Variant Launches July 28: No Event, Just Product

406
Zeekr announced the five-seat version of its flagship 9X hybrid SUV will officially launch on July 28 without a launch event. The variant emphasizes rear-seat comfort with 1.4 meters of legroom and zero-gravity seats. Pre-sale benefits are worth up to RMB 90,000, with overseas markets targeted in Q3.

Against the Grain: A Launch Without an Event

On July 16, 2026, Zeekr announced via its official social media channels that the five-seat 9X would open for firm orders on July 28 at 10:00 a.m. Beijing Time — with no launch event.

In China's auto industry, new vehicle launches are typically accompanied by high-profile promotional events. Zeekr's "silent launch" approach is highly unusual. Industry analysts suggest two possible rationales:

  1. Cost control: Skip the event and redirect resources into customer benefits
  2. Product confidence: The 9X already has market recognition, reducing the need for launch hype

Pre-sales opened on July 8, with a RMB 5,000 deposit offsetting RMB 10,000 from the purchase price. Limited-time benefits are worth as much as RMB 90,000, including:

  • RMB 10,000 direct purchase discount
  • Complimentary Naim premium audio system worth RMB 60,000
  • Complimentary ceiling display worth RMB 15,000
  • Complimentary power side steps worth RMB 10,000

Rear-Seat Comfort: The Five-Seat Variant's Core Selling Point

While the six-seat version targets family travel, the five-seat variant aims at business reception and premium personal mobility. All key upgrades focus on the rear:

  • Legroom: Second-row legroom of up to 1.4 meters
  • Zero-gravity seats: Two independent seats with powered leg rests, heating, ventilation, and massage
  • Center armrest: Replaces the middle seat with physical controls, cup holders, and two wireless chargers
  • Onboard fridge: Built-in 9-liter temperature-controlled refrigerator
  • Interior materials: Nappa full-grain leather and 14 pieces of natural Nordic wood

The five-seat 9X directly competes with Nio's ES8 five-seat version, which launched on July 9 starting at RMB 382,800 — 5.9% below its six-seat counterpart. Zeekr has not disclosed five-seat pricing, but the six-seat version starts at RMB 465,900.

Powertrain and Technology: Flagship Standards Unchanged

The five-seat variant is expected to carry over the powertrain from the six-seat version. The Zeekr 9X is the brand's first hybrid model, built on Geely's SEA-S platform with a full-stack 900V high-voltage system:

  • Entry trim: Dual-motor combined output of 660 kW (885 hp), 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds
  • Top trim: Tri-motor combined output of 1,030 kW (1,381 hp), 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds
  • Battery options: 55 kWh (300 km EV range) / 70 kWh (380 km EV range)
  • Combined range: approximately 1,200 km
  • ADAS: G-ASD H9 with 1,400 TOPS computing and up to 5 LiDAR sensors

Despite top-tier specs, the 9X has seen declining momentum, with June deliveries of 6,382 units, down 24.39% from May. The first-half peak was 10,191 units in March.

Zeekr's Growth Landscape

While the 9X's individual momentum has softened, the Zeekr brand overall remains strong. June deliveries reached 35,169 units, up 110.57% year-on-year and a new monthly record. First-half deliveries totaled 178,370 units, up 96.57%.

The Zeekr 9X is scheduled to officially enter overseas markets in Q3 2026. The Zeekr 007 GT is already on sale in 16 European countries starting at €45,990. For buyers in Central Asia and Russia, Zeekr's expanding accessibility through platforms like EX1000.COM offers access to 900V hybrid platforms and 1,381-hp tri-motor systems representing the current technological peak of Chinese luxury hybrid SUVs.
