Penetration Breaks 60%

In June 2026, China's NEV market penetration reached 63.6%, breaking the 60% threshold for the first time. This means over 6 out of 10 new cars sold were NEVs, up more than 10 percentage points YoY.

CPCA predicts July passenger car retail will reach 1.52 million units, with NEV penetration hitting a new record. As more new NEV models launch and charging infrastructure continues to improve, penetration is expected to keep rising.

Capacity Support: Guangdong Example

Guangdong's H1 NEV output grew 48.4%, with overall auto manufacturing up 9.9%. As China's largest economy and auto manufacturing hub, Guangdong hosts BYD, GAC, and a complete parts supply chain, providing solid capacity support for NEV penetration growth.

Implications for Overseas Markets

China's rapid NEV penetration breakthrough proves EVs have shifted from "policy-driven" to "market-driven." For Central Asia and Russia, this signals:

  • More diverse and competitively priced Chinese NEV models
  • Improved charging infrastructure and after-sales service
  • A growing supply of quality used electric vehicles for export
