Shenlong Automotive Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. was officially established on August 20 with registered capital of approximately 8.2 billion yuan. Jointly funded by Dongfeng Motor, Stellantis Group, and four industrial investors, the new company will lead the electrification of Peugeot, Citroën, and Jeep brands, with four new energy models planned for launch from 2027.
Six Investors, 8.2B Yuan: Joint Venture Enters 3.0 Era
On August 20, Shenlong Automotive Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. was officially inaugurated in Wuhan Economic Development Zone. The company's registered capital reaches 819,524.97 thousand yuan, with six shareholders:
| Shareholder | Stake | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Shenlong Auto | ~24.1% | Investor, manufacturing function |
| Dongfeng Motor | ~13.5% | Technology leader |
| Stellantis Group | ~13.5% | Brand & global channels |
| Wuhan Financial Holdings | ~19.5% | Local industrial capital |
| Wuhan EDZ Investment | ~19.5% | Local industrial capital |
| Changjiang Industry Group | ~9.8% | Provincial industrial capital |
This marks the first time in China's automotive history that provincial, municipal, and district-level industrial capital simultaneously enter a joint venture's shareholder structure. Yang Qing, Chairman of Dongfeng Motor, stated that Shenlong Tech breaks the boundaries of traditional joint ventures, building a new cooperation model linking Chinese and foreign partners, central and local governments, and industry with finance.
From Learner to Technology Exporter: 34-Year Role Reversal
In 1992, Shenlong Auto was established in Wuhan. French engineers held the blueprints while Chinese workers studied line by line. At that time, Shenlong was an importer and learner of European technology.
Today, the script has completely reversed:
- Dongfeng Motor leads NEV and intelligent R&D, coordinating local supply chains
- Stellantis Group leverages brand heritage, design, and global sales channels to carry Chinese technology abroad
- Global R&D teams will actively adopt Chinese technical solutions, deeply collaborating with Dongfeng's R&D system
In March 2026, Robert Peugeot, Vice Chairman of Stellantis, personally visited Wuhan's test track. After test-driving 9 Dongfeng NEVs in 90 minutes, he remarked: "At my age, I desperately need such reliable smart technology!"
Three-Brand Transformation Roadmap
Shenlong Tech plans four all-new NEV models in its first phase, rolling out from 2027:
- BEV models — targeting urban commuting and mainstream family markets
- PHEV models — covering hardcore off-road and long-distance travel scenarios
- Launch timeline — the first all-new NEV expected by end of 2026
Beyond the Dongfeng Citroën and Dongfeng Peugeot brands, Jeep will also be produced at Shenlong facilities. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed that the first two Jeep models and two Peugeot models will be manufactured at Shenlong's Wuhan plant and distributed globally through Stellantis' worldwide network.
Overseas Perspective: Opportunities for Central Asia & Russia
Shenlong Tech pursues a "Made in Wuhan, Sold Globally" and "In China, For the World" strategic vision. For Central Asian and Russian buyers, this means:
- Technical reliability: Built on Dongfeng's mature NEV platforms and supply chains
- Brand equity: Century-old heritage of Peugeot, Citroën, and Jeep
- Channel accessibility: Stellantis Group's global sales network coverage
