Top 10 May NEV Sales All Electric Vehicles, Gasoline Cars Ousted for First Time

May 2026 marked a historic turning point for China's passenger vehicle market. According to Gasgoo Auto Research Institute data, all top 10 best-selling models were new energy vehicles, with gasoline cars completely ousted from the top 10 for the first time. NEV penetration reached 62.9%, meaning more than 6 out of every 10 cars sold were new energy. BYD ranked first among domestic brands with 327,000 units, followed by Chery and Geely. Geely Star Wish topped all categories with 38,800 units, while Tesla Model Y ranked second. This data signals China's shift from "gasoline-electric parallel" to "NEV-dominated" era.
