
Global NEV Market Share Reaches 24.1%, China Commands Over 60%
According to the latest data released by Cui Dongshu, head of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), global automobile sales reached 56.11 million units from January to July 2026, of which new energy vehicles (NEVs) accounted for 13.52 million units, representing a market share of 24.1%. The breakdown shows battery electric vehicles (BEVs) at 16.8%, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) at 7.3%, and conventional hybrids (HEVs) at 8.1%. China's NEV passenger vehicle share of the global market reached 62%, climbing to 65.3% in July alone. In the PHEV segment, China leads with a commanding 71% global share, reaching 74% in July. Meanwhile, global NEV development shows significant imbalances: Norway's penetration rate has reached 81%, Germany 32.6%, the UK 35%, while the US stands at merely 7% and Japan at just 4%. Chinese autonomous brands' NEV overseas market share surged significantly, reaching 28% in July, demonstrating strong momentum for Chinese NEV exports.
