China Bans External Blue ADS Indicator Lights from July 27, 2026
Starting July 27, 2026, newly certified passenger vehicles in China are prohibited from featuring external blue intelligent driving indicator lights. The ban stems from strict color restrictions in mandatory national standard GB 4785, which permits only white, red, and amber-yellow exterior lighting. The "little blue light" once envisioned as the hallmark of L3 autonomous driving is now officially off the table, forcing automakers to redesign visual cues for self-driving functions.
