JETTA's First EV Sedan M6 Completes MIIT Filing, 4806mm Length Targets 100,000-Yuan Segment

134
FAW-Volkswagen's JETTA brand has completed MIIT regulatory filing for its first all-electric sedan, the M6. Built on VW's CMP platform with proprietary Jiesi architecture, it offers 113kW and 145kW single-motor variants and is expected to launch later this year.

MIIT Filing Marks JETTA's Electrification Milestone

In mid-July, the JETTA brand under FAW-Volkswagen officially filed its first pure-electric sedan, the M6, with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in Batch 409 of the Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Products announcement. As JETTA's inaugural step into the EV sedan market, the M6 filing marks a critical milestone on the road to commercial launch.

The M6 is built on Volkswagen's Compact Main Platform (CMP), a locally developed EV architecture. JETTA has layered its proprietary Jiesi architecture on top. Key platform advantages include:

  • Development cycle shortened by over 30%, with costs reduced by approximately 40%
  • Compatibility with China Electronic Architecture (CEA), enabling zonal E/E layouts
  • Support for over-the-air updates and AI-assisted advanced driver assistance systems

EV-First Design Language

The M6 debuts a new EV-specific design language. Up front, a closed grille is flanked by slim, split LED headlights with JETTA's new EV logo centered. The front bumper integrates an active air intake, while the charging port sits on the front passenger-side fender.

The side profile is minimalist and sporty, featuring a fastback silhouette with semi-hidden door handles. Buyers can choose between 17-inch and 18-inch wheels. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar carries the "JETTA" badge, with a large black lower bumper adding a sporty touch. Optional equipment includes various mirror styles, window trims, wheel designs, cameras, a shark-fin antenna, and a panoramic sunroof.

Dimensions and Powertrain

The M6 fits squarely in the mid-size pure-electric sedan segment. Key specifications:

The M6 adopts a single-motor layout with two power outputs: 113 kW and 145 kW. The battery pack is supplied by CALB. The vehicle fully complies with the new national power battery safety standards that took effect on July 1, 2026.

Market Positioning and Strategic Plan

JETTA positions the M6 as an intelligent pure-electric family sedan targeting young families. The 100,000-yuan segment is one of China's most competitive EV battlegrounds.

JETTA's future roadmap:

  1. September 2026: M6 rolls off the production line at FAW-Volkswagen's Chengdu plant
  2. Four new NEV models within two years, including BEV and PHEV SUVs
  3. 2027: Full BEV + PHEV dual-line layout
  4. 2030: Annual production and sales target of 400,000 to 500,000 units

Notably, JETTA has been authorized by Volkswagen Group to begin overseas expansion, with Central Asia identified as the first target market. For international buyers monitoring China's EV export pipeline, the M6 represents an emerging option. EX1000.COM will continue tracking the M6's export timeline and availability.
